Telescopes For Tikes
The Sirius Stargazers Club Needs Your Help!
We are on the lookout for unused or unwanted telescopes from the community.
We want to enhance our
educational program by providing children with telescopes and science books. If you have a
telescope that you purchased but rarely use, don't let it sit in the
attic. Donate it to us? We'll find it a new home! There
are many children who would love to explore the heavens but don't have a
telescope.
Where did the idea come from?
Back in January 2004 I was visiting with a friend when I noticed a 3" refractor telescope sitting on their porch underneath an old rug. They had received it as a present but couldn't figure out how to use it, got bored with it and relegated it to the back porch. Like most toys, its usefulness ran out almost immediately after being taken from the box. I have seen this time and time again. I realized that the telescope was still a wonderful instrument and could provide a child years of enjoyment. He gave me the telescope, I cleaned it up a little and found it a home. There are many "usable" but "unwanted" telescopes all around the community. These telescopes are not useless! There are many children who would love to explore the heavens but need a telescope!
If you have an old telescope sitting around the house or packed away in the garage let us know. We'll gladly stop by and pick it up. Then we'll find a child who wants a telescope and we'll give it to them for FREE! Most people don't realize that even the smallest telescopes will give rewarding views to even the smallest children.
If you have a telescope that you would like to donate let us know.
If you'd like to be put on our "find me a telescope" list, let us know.
We are also in search of unwanted Astronomy and Science Books.
